Introduction to Alpha Ointment
Alpha is a wound healing ointment that has suitable anti-inflammatory effects on the skin. This ointment is herbal, therefore it does not have the side effects of cortisone and other similar products. By using Alpha, the skin naturally regenerates and its inflammation decreases. Of course, Alpha only provides the conditions for healing; therefore, the wound heals naturally and the restoration of beauty to the skin will face fewer problems.
Ingredients and Mechanism of Action
Alpha ointment is a healing product from the Rejoderm group that contains lawsone and unsaturated fatty acids. Each of these substances plays an important role in wound healing, which is explained below:
Lawsone
Lawsone is the active ingredient in Alpha ointment, derived from the plant Lawsonia inermis. Various studies conducted on this plant and its active ingredient have demonstrated different properties, including the following:
Anti-inflammatory property:
The presence of inflammation in a wound is one of the factors that can delay wound healing and reduce the quality of repair. Using the Lawsonia inermis plant helps control and reduce inflammation in the wound. Unlike most drugs used today, which control inflammation by suppressing the immune system, this plant controls inflammation without causing side effects, thus increasing the speed and quality of wound healing.
Antibacterial property:
The presence of infection in a wound is also a factor that leads to improper wound healing. The antibacterial property of Lawsonia inermis helps prevent infection without the need for prophylactic antibiotics, resulting in faster and better-quality wound healing.
Increased healing speed:
In addition to the aforementioned effects, all of which contribute to faster wound healing, the use of this plant also reduces the time needed for the superficial layers of the wound to heal, thereby increasing the overall healing speed.
Improved quality of wound repair:
Research has shown that the use of Lawsonia inermis increases the amount of reparative tissue, collagen levels, and the wound’s resistance to pressure. Together, these factors guarantee high-quality wound healing.
Reduction in wound size:
This plant not only increases the speed and quality of wound healing but also causes the wound edges to draw closer together, which is an important factor in proper wound recovery.
Prevention of free radical damage and antioxidant property:
Due to its chemical structure, lawsone can stabilize free radicals by accepting an electron from them, thus creating a stable resonance.
The plant compound Lawsone, by accepting a single electron from free radicals, creates a resonance in the benzene ring, which ultimately undergoes hydrolysis with two hydrogen ions (from water).
Advantages of Alpha Ointment
Rapid Relief of Inflammation
Rapid relief of inflammation and pain is an exclusive advantage of Alpha ointment. The patient’s mental comfort following pain relief plays an important role in normalizing daily activities such as nutrition, mobility, and more.
No Prophylactic Antibiotic Prescription
No antibiotics are prescribed to prevent infection (if an infection does develop in the wound, the doctor will decide on antibiotic treatment based on microbial culture results and antibiogram).
Increased Local Moisture
This moisture helps gradually remove the dead layers on the wound and also makes it easier to wash away surface contaminants during wound cleansing with water. Therefore, this method reduces the number of microbes on the wound surface. At the same time, gradual removal of dead skin layers means there is no need for physical removal (debridement), sparing the patient from pain caused by that procedure.
Reduced Treatment Duration
Rapid relief of inflammation and increased wound moisture, along with no need for debridement, are all factors that speed up wound healing with Alpha. Studies have also shown that the extract of Lawsonia inermis (the active ingredient of Alpha) increases the speed and quality of wound repair.
50 to 90 Percent Reduction in Treatment Costs
Avoiding hospitalization, the ease of applying Alpha ointment, no need for multiple medications to control pain and inflammation, and no prophylactic antibiotic prescriptions all contribute to a significant reduction in treatment costs.
Improved Quality of Wound Healing
No need for frequent debridement and avoiding topical antibiotics (which delay wound healing), along with the elimination of free radicals in the wound, significantly improve the quality of wound repair.
Effective and Lasting Pain Control
The extract of Lawsonia inermis (active ingredient of Alpha) effectively reduces patient pain; also, no need for debridement or escharotomy (in burn wounds) reduces secondary pain for the patient.
Easy Dressing Method
Dressing with Alpha is done only using lukewarm water, clean cotton cloth, and polyethylene covering, which makes the treatment of burns (even moderate cases), pressure sores, and similar wounds easily manageable at home.
Instructions for Use
Method for Dressing Burn Wounds:
First, gently wash the wound with saline solution or lukewarm boiled water. Then dry the wound. For minor burns, use a lint-free cotton cloth, and for severe or extensive burns, use sterile gauze to dry the wound. Place the cloth on the wound surface to absorb local moisture, then remove it and repeat on other parts of the wound. This method helps prevent secondary inflammation, pain, and bleeding. Allow the wound to be exposed to air for about ten minutes until it is relatively dry. Disposable gloves can be used during dressing. Spread a thin layer of ointment over the wound and cover it with a polyethylene sheet (such as a freezer bag). To do this, cut the freezer bag around the edges and place the inside of the bag on the wound surface, then bandage the limb (bandaging method is explained at the end of the page). For burns on the head or face, you can also use petrolatum gauze instead of a freezer bag, and you may leave it open. In this case, the ointment should be applied and dressed at least three times a day; this is called an open dressing where the wound remains fully exposed.
Changing the Dressing:
Repeat the dressing every 24 hours. Due to increased wound moisture, sticky secretions may appear on the wound surface. Wash the wound with warm water. Sometimes, it is necessary to hold the affected area under warm running water for a few minutes to gradually remove secretions and dead tissue. If the patient is immobile, a clean cotton cloth or gauze soaked in warm water can be used to clean the area thoroughly. Do not manipulate the wound during washing. Dry the wound as initially described and repeat the Alpha dressing. Over the following days, secretions will gradually decrease, and dead tissue will separate.
Frequency of Use:
Once every 24 hours for closed dressing and three times a day for open dressing.
Duration of Use:
Between 3 to 30 days depending on the depth of the burn. When the skin regains its maximum natural beauty, healing is complete. In very deep burns, healing may take up to 2 months or longer.
Precautions:
In burns on the face, if Alpha ointment enters the eye, rinse the eye gently with lukewarm water.
Important Notes:
Patience is essential for optimal results.
Do not use other burn medications on the wound simultaneously with Alpha.
Bandaging Method: It is better to do bandaging in two steps. First, use a high-quality regular bandage. Since these bandages have little elasticity, avoid tying a knot at the end and fix the end of the bandage with special cloth tape. Second, cover the first bandage with an elastic bandage to apply moderate pressure on the dressing.
Ensure the wound is completely dry before dressing.
Apply a warm compress on the affected area every 8 hours for 15 minutes using a hot water bag or warm towel. This increases local blood flow and accelerates healing. It also helps control itching.
Once pain and burning sensations stop, resume daily activities as much as possible because immobility slows wound healing.
Immediate use of Alpha after a burn rapidly reduces wound burning. Delayed use may initially increase burning, but it decreases after a few hours.
Side Effects:
In people with a history of sensitivity to Alpha ointment components, redness and itching may occur around the wound.
Drug Interactions:
No information is available regarding drug interactions for the topical form.
Use During Pregnancy and Lactation:
Safe for use in minor burns and limited duration during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Interactions with Diseases:
Contraindicated in individuals with favism (G6PD deficiency).
